The Life Cube-Quatic with Steve Zissou

Filed under: Confessions, In My Collection — Tags: , , , — Head Tragic @ 7:37 pm August 7, 2010

One of my fav movies is The Life Acquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Bill Murray as a Jacques Cousteau type marine adventurer (I don’t really recommend movies because invariably people have differenty tastes – for example I love Napolean Dynamite and Nacho Libre, but I have very good friends who think I’m from another planet for like them!) and other great performances from guys like Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe and couple of Aussies in Noah Taylor and Cate Blanchett.

Anyway, combining my fav movies with Cubeecraft is always a fun way for me to pass some time after the kids go to bed, so tonight I’ll be making the cubed paper toy of Steve Zissou … and maybe Astroboy as well. Download Steve (and Astro) from Cubeecraft.

New Paper Toy from Inavatof

The VendorThomas over at Inavatof has released a new paper toy for free download – The Vendor. This is a character that Thomas developed as part of a short comic a little while ago, and it’s nice to see the hairy ice-cream-wielding ape take on another life.

Quick tip when making this one – try using double-sided tape instead of glue, especially if using a heavier paper or card as I do, as some of the curves are a little hard to stick with glue.

Download The Vendor from the Inavatof.com website, or from Thomas’ profile on NicePaperToys.com.

Millennium Falcon Paper Model available for download

A friend of mine found this on some Japanese site called Biglobe (anyone know it?) – it’s a pretty rockin’ paper model for the Millennium Falcon. I can’t read Japanese, and the model itself doesn’t have any clear design credits (in English anyway), so if the creator if this is out there somewhere and wants to touch base, I’d gladly let everyone know. I haven’t made the model up yet cause I’ve used up all my good paper-toy card on a recent batch of Cubees, but rest assured once I do get this sucker made, you’ll be reading about it here! You can download individual pages from the Japanese source site here, or otherwise you can get a combined PDF that I created from here.

Ghostbusters Cubee paper craft toys now available

Filed under: In My Collection, Product Reviews — Tags: , , , — Head Tragic @ 8:10 am June 30, 2009

When there’s paper toys, that gotta get made … Who ya gonna call? Cubeecraft! Now available for download are Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), Ray Stantz (Dan Ackroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson). I LOVED this movie when I was young and taught myself how to draw the Ghostbusters logo so  I could plaster it all over my school books. Grab the Ghostbusters Cubeecraft series here, including the older Mr Stay Puft model from a while back.

NicePaperToys.com – The Paper Toy Network

A (very talented) friend of mine today directed me to a website that he has been contributing to with some custom paper toy designs – NicePaperToys.com. It’s kind of like a DeviantArt site for paper toy designers and artists. Well worth checking out to find some cool new toys to make, and getting involved if you’d like to share in the community and networking  aspect of the site. By the way, my friend Thomas of Inavatof has developed some pretty cool characters (one of my favourites being Bad Carrot). Check it out!
